Phaco- emulsification is the technique by which cataract is broken into small pieces and removed from the eye using ultrasound with the help of a special phaco equipment. The actual cataract operation is carried out through a 2.5 to 2.8 mm incision with the help of a titanium needle vibrating at the rate of more than 40,000 times per second.
In early days routine cataract operation is carried out through an incision which is 8 to 10 mm in length through which first cataract is removed and then an intraocular lens is implanted. In Phaco- emulsification technique, cataract removal is done through 2.5 mm to 2.8 mm opening only ( maximum it is extended to 5 mm) for implantation of the intraocular lens and this avoid the necessary for stitches to close the wound and reduce the amount of glasses required for distant vision. Very rarely only a single stitch may be needed.

Optical biometry is the current standard for intraocular lens (IOL) power calculations in clinical practice. Optical biometry is a highly accurate non-invasive automated method for measuring the anatomical characteristics of the eye. Accurate measurements are critical for determining the correct power of an IOL before it is implanted during cataract surgery . Before implantation the correct lens power needs to be determined. The process of measuring the various anatomical characteristics of the eye that are needed for IOL power calculation is called ocular biometry.

A-scan ultrasound biometry, commonly referred to as an A-scan (short for Amplitude scan), is routine type of diagnostic test used in optometry or ophthalmology. The A-scan provides data on the length of the eye, which is a major determinant in common sight disorders. The most common use of the A-scan is to determine eye length for calculation of intraocular lens power. Briefly, the total refractive power of the emmetropic eye is approximately 60. Of this power, the cornea provides roughly 40 diopters, and the crystalline lens 20 diopters.

LASIK  commonly referred to as laser eye surgery or laser vision correction, is a type of refractive surgery for the correction of myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. The LASIK surgery is performed by an ophthalmologist who uses a laser or microkeratome to reshape the eye's cornea in order to improve visual acuity. For most people, LASIK provides a long-lasting alternative to eyeglasses or contact lenses.

An autorefractor or automated refractor is a computer-controlled machine used during an eye examination to provide an objective measurement of a person's refractive error and prescription for glasses or contact lenses. This is achieved by measuring how light is changed as it enters a person's eye.

Retinoscopy is used to determine refractive error in children, developmentally delayed adults, or in individuals whose behavior limits the ability to be cooperative with autorefraction or subjective refraction. It is especially useful in very young children and infants.

Tonometry is a diagnostic test that measures the pressure inside your eye, which is called intraocular pressure (IOP). This measurement can help your doctor determine whether or not you may be at risk of glaucoma. Glaucoma is a serious eye disease in which there’s an increased fluid pressure within your eye. This increased pressure can damage your optic nerve. According to NIH Senior Health, glaucoma is most likely to occur in people over the age of 60 and is a leading cause of blindness within that age group.

Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a non-invasive diagnostic instrument used for imaging the retina. It is the technology for the future because it can enhance patient care. It has the ability to detect problems in the eye prior to any symptoms being present in the patient.

Ophthalmoscopy, also called funduscopy, is a test that allows a health professional to see inside the fundus of the eye and other structures using an ophthalmoscope (or funduscope). It is done as part of an eye examination and may be done as part of a routine physical examination. It is crucial in determining the health of the retina, optic disc, and vitreous humor.

The slit lamp is an instrument consisting of a high-intensity light source that can be focused to shine a thin sheet of light into the eye. It is used in conjunction with a biomicroscope. The lamp facilitates an examination of the anterior segment and posterior segment of the human eye, which includes the eyelid, sclera, conjunctiva, iris, natural crystalline lens, and cornea. The binocular slit-lamp examination provides a stereoscopic magnified view of the eye structures in detail, enabling anatomical diagnoses to be made for a variety of eye conditions.

Telescopic sliding drawer can be used for keeping refraction trial lens.
